Dental Cavities in Calgary – Signs You May Need a Filling
There are many tell-tale signs indicating you may have a cavity. Here are some of the most common:
✔ Sensitive teeth – you may have sensitivity to hot or cold drinks or sweet, sticky foods.
✔ Throbbing or pain in your mouth – this may be most noticeable when you bite down or chew. If you experience pain of any kind, you should make an appointment immediately.
✔ Dark spots on our teeth – have you noticed discolouration of your chewing surface or the outer areas of your tooth? Does your tooth feel rough in spots? Darker, discoloured areas may indicate a cavity.
✔ Tearing of floss – If the floss always tears around a certain tooth, it could be an indication of decay. You may also notice food getting stuck in the same areas.
✔ Damage to a previous filling – It’s common for older fillings to break down over time. If you notice a previous filling has cracked or is missing completely, it may be time for a replacement.

What Should I Expect?
So the unthinkable has happened and you have a cavity. Don’t be too hard on yourself as cavities are very common and they can be restored fairly quickly. The first step is to remove the decay. Once the decayed material has been removed, we will clean the area to remove bacteria and any debris.
The next step is to isolate the tooth to be repaired which will prevent moisture from interfering with the bonding process. The filling material will then be placed and carefully shaped to fit your tooth. A special bonding light is then used to harden the material.
You will be out of the chair in no time!
